Description
Overview
The ASUS TUF GAMING B850-PLUS WIFI is an ATX motherboard for AMD Socket AM5 processors, built around the AMD B850 chipset. It combines TUF-grade durability and a robust 14+2+1 (80A) DrMOS power design with gaming-focused features such as PCIe 5.0 for a primary GPU slot, DDR5 memory support and Wi‑Fi 7 networking.
Key features
- Socket: AM5 — supports AMD Ryzen 9000, 8000 and 7000 series (see ASUS CPU support list).
- Memory: 4 x DDR5 DIMM slots, dual-channel, up to 256GB; supports EXPO and ASUS AEMP and speeds to 8000+ MT/s (OC).
- Expansion: 1 x PCIe 5.0 x16 (dependent on CPU), 1 x PCIe 4.0 x16 (chipset lane, shares bandwidth with M.2_3), plus 2 x PCIe 4.0 x1 slots.
- Storage: 3 x M.2 (including a PCIe 5.0-capable M.2_1 with some CPUs) and 4 x SATA 6Gb/s ports.
- Networking: 2.5Gb Ethernet (Realtek) and 2×2 Wi‑Fi 7 (802.11be) with ASUS Q-Antenna; Bluetooth v5.4.
- USB: Rear USB 20Gbps Type-C, multiple 10Gbps and 5Gbps ports; front USB Type-C 10Gbps header.
- Audio: Realtek ALC1220P 7.1 codec with high SNR, de‑pop circuit and dedicated audio features.
- DIY conveniences: Pre-mounted I/O shield, BIOS FlashBack, M.2 Q-Latch, PCIe Q-Release, Q-LED and Thunderbolt (USB4) header.
Who it suits
This board is aimed at gamers and content creators who want an AM5 platform with modern connectivity and solid power delivery without moving to an X-series flagship. It’s a good choice where DDR5 memory, multiple NVMe drives and Wi‑Fi 7 are priorities.
Compatibility & notes
- Some features (PCIe mode for slots and M.2 speeds) depend on the installed CPU — check ASUS’s CPU/memory support list for exact behaviour.
- Wi‑Fi 7 functionality and regulatory bandwidth (6GHz usage) may vary by operating system and region; latest drivers/OS updates are recommended.
- Bundled accessories include two SATA cables, an ASUS WiFi Q‑Antenna, M.2 rubber packages and a quick start guide.
