Description
Overview
The MSI MAG X870E TOMAHAWK WIFI is an ATX gaming motherboard for AMD’s AM5 platform. It combines the high-bandwidth X870E chipset with modern connectivity — PCIe 5.0 for graphics, USB4/40Gbps Type-C, and a quad M.2 layout — making it suitable for high-speed NVMe storage, DDR5 memory overclocking and contemporary GPUs. The board ships with an onboard Wi‑Fi 7 module and a 5Gb Ethernet controller for fast networking.
Key features
- Supports AMD Ryzen™ 9000 / 8000 / 7000 series desktop processors (Socket AM5).
- 4x DDR5 UDIMM slots, up to 256GB; official support for DDR5 up to 8400+ MT/s (OC) and JEDEC ranges 4800–5600 MT/s.
- Quad M.2: two CPU-sourced M.2 slots (supporting PCIe Gen5 x4) and two chipset M.2 Gen4 x4 slots for flexible high-speed storage.
- Expansion: 3x PCIe x16 slots (primary PCIe slot supports PCIe 5.0 x16 from CPU).
- Networking: onboard Wi‑Fi 7 solution (supports 2.4/5/6GHz bands where permitted) and Realtek 5G LAN.
- High-speed USB: USB4 / 40Gbps Type‑C and multiple 20Gb/10Gb/5Gb USB ports on rear and front headers.
- Audio: Realtek ALC4080 codec with 7.1-channel support and Audio Boost 5.
Notes: some features depend on the installed CPU (for example integrated graphics outputs and certain RAID features). Availability of the 6GHz Wi‑Fi band varies by country; the M.2_2 slot and rear USB40Gbps Type‑C port share PCIe 5.0 bandwidth (BIOS option can change behaviour). Check MSI’s support pages for the latest BIOS and memory compatibility lists before purchasing.
